Teba Bank sponsored the COSATU National May Day Rally in the North West on 1 May 2008. Teba Bank was chosen to sponsor the event because of our relationship with NUM and our support of mineworkers over the last three decades.
The May Day rally in Orkney was exciting, the stands were bright red with COSATU/Teba Bank T-shirts worn by workers who had been bussed in from all over the North West Province. The main speaker of the day was Jacob Zuma (ANC President) in addition to S’dumo Dlamini (then acting President of COSATU); Blade Nzimande (General Secretary: SACP) and others. The most exciting pronouncement of the day, from Teba Bank’s perspective, came from Solly Phetoe (Provincial Secretary COSATU), who announced that Teba Bank has been declared, through a resolution of COSATU, the Workers’ Bank in recognition of the Bank’s continued support of workers.
May Day 2008 was declared a success by all in attendance and the relationship with COSATU has been strengthened through our support of the workers of South Africa.
